Graduation

Graduates of the PhD program at the Innsbruck Medical University will have demonstrated their ability to plan and successfully pursue an innovative research project.
They know the current literature and scientific challenges in their research field, as well as the experimental approaches used to address them.
They understand the scientific method, statistical analysis, and are familiar with the relevant scientific and ethical standards.
They will have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully pursue a career as an independent researcher in the biomedical sciences.

Graduation from a foreign university

The general requirement for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program is the successful completion of a master's program or an equivalent degree program, as regards the duration and course structure, at a recognized Austrian or foreign post- secondary institution of education that offers the required professional background and preparation for entering the program.

Requirements for graduation

  • Three years of research training.
  • 30 ECTS credits of seminars, lectures and courses.
  • Regular progress assessments by the thesis committee.
  • Successful completion of the thesis.
  • Publication(s) in peer-reviewed journal(s).
  • Internal and external review of thesis.
  • Passing of public defense and final exam.
  • Specific regulations for the Doctoral Thesis.
  • Specific information about the final exam and defense.
