Short Curriculum Vitae

Mag.Dr. Michael J. Ausserlechner is Associated Professor at the Department of Pediatrics I and Head of the Molecular Biology Research Laboratory. He studied microbiology and did his MSc thesis at the Institute of Experimental Pathology in Innsbruck in the Group of Prof. Dr. Georg Wick. During his PhD thesis at the Division of Molecular Pathophysiology in the Group of Prof. Dr. Reinhard Kofler he focused on the molecular mechanisms of programmed cell death and cell cycle control in human leukemia. After two years of postdoc in this group he changed to the Department of Pediatrics where he built up the Molecular Biology Research Laboratory and leads an independent research group. In 2006 he received the venia docendi (habilitation) in Pathophysiology. Michael J. Ausserlechner received several scientific awards among them the “Preis des Fürstentums Liechtenstein für wissenschaftliche Forschung an der Medizinischen Universität Innsbruck 2005” and the „Otto Kraup Preis 2007“. Since 2014 Michael J. Ausserlechner is Associate Professor at the Department of Pediatrics I. The main research interests are molecular function and regulation of FOXO transcription factors and IAPs, their effect on ROS regulation and approaches to modulate their activity by small, drug-like compounds.
