Image-guided Diagnostics and Therapy – Novelty, Internationality and Excellence,
a project of HORIZON.1.2, funded under Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)
Future challenges in medicine will require PhD-level professionals with a sound cross- and interdisciplinary education to face the impact of the massive digital changes affecting (image-guided) diagnosis and therapy. IGNIDTE is designed to further address this demand.
IGNIDTE* will ignite excellence through a unique, multidisciplinary research setting at the Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI) and University of Innsbruck (UIBK) and a thoughtfully tailored training program, educating the next generation of experts in image-guided diagnostics and therapy. The programme is thus well positioned for supporting the career development of 12 promising young scientists with opportunity to develop their own scientific profile resulting in great career opportunities.
Interested candidates will be able to apply for project topics in clinical application areas, focusing on the general application domains of
Radiology, Cardiology, Computer Science, Oncology, Mathematics, Biomedical physics, Neuropathology, Biomedical engineering, Nuclear Medicine.
Your area of responsibility
- Produce a high-quality scientific thesis, to be openly accessible at university websites
- Publications of at least 1 first and 2 co-authorised scientific papers (5 on average) on leading journals within the field.
- Participate in 5 conferences during the PhD, by presenting their research work (poster/oral presentation as 1st author)
- Organise satellite conference to showcase the achievements of their PhDs, include prestigious invited speakers, supported by the supervisors
- Take part in take part in public outreach events and science festivals, such as the European Researcher’s Night and Pint of Science. In addition, they will engage in initiatives that promote and support women and non-binary scientists, including participation in platforms
- Complete offered secondments at academic and/or non-academic partner institutions Worldwide.
- Working closely with the supervisory team and contributing to interdisciplinary research discussions.
We are looking forward to
- Doctoral candidates, meaning they do not already hold a doctoral degree;
- Have a relevant medical, dentistry, master’s or equivalent degree;
- Fulfil the MSCA mobility rule: they must not have lived, worked or studied in Austria for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call deadline;
- Candidates not enrolled in a doctoral programme leading to a doctoral degree in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country;
- Candidates not already permanently employed by the host institution where the research training will take place;
*Applicants may apply before finishing their degree, but the final graduation certificate must be available before employment can start.

Successful candidates will receive a full-time doctoral employment contract for 3 years which consists of 40 hours per week.
The remuneration for this position starts at €7,015 gross per month (4.205,71 net approx.) plus allowances and attractive social benefits (e.g. public transport ticket, meal allowance, team events, health and sports offer).
