Mission Statement
The Institute of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry is engaged in pre- and postdoctoral teaching, education and research in
· Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology
. Molecular Oncology
· Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Biochemistry
· Analytical Biochemistry (Proteomics)
· Laboratory Medicine
· Neurobiochemistry
Major research topics include:
· Molecular biology of growth, differentiation, apoptosis & cancer (signal transduction, antitumor drug development)
· Neurobiochemistry (molecular basis of axonal growth and regeneration)
· Molecular Cardiology and Vascular Biology (the impact of natriuretic peptides in diagnosis and therapy of patients with chronic heart failure; preconditioning of human coronary artery bypass grafts)
· Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry of Pteridines
· Proteomics and biology of chromatin (analytical procedures of separation of chromosomal proteins – histones and histone variants during cellular proliferation/ apoptosis, differentiation, aging and disease).
· Protein synthesis in archea.
· Biological role of NO-synthesis in a lower eukaryote.
