The laboratory for Clinical Chemistry represents a special laboratory conducting assays for the University Hospital of Innsbruck, local hospitals and physicians and as well for those all over Austria. The key program is focused on determinations of trace elements, vitamins, rare metabolites, tumormarkers, porphyrines and special parameters in cardiology. In cooperation with several departments of the University Hospital (Urology, Pediatrics, Anaesthesiology, Internal Medicine) the actual field of scientific interests includes studies on prostaglandines and leukotrienes, growth factors, interleukines, neopterin and iron metabolism. Additionally the laboratory is engaged in the development of new methods and the establishment of useful parameters in the different fields of Clinical Chemistry. A main task of the laboratory represents teaching in Clinical Chemistry. Medical and technician students attend the recommended courses.
