Institute of Pathophysiology
"The whole is greater than the sum of the parts"
Diseases may arise as a consequence of disorders of normal physiological functions. These disorders can for instance occur due to mutations, infections or aberrant function of proteins. Research at the Institute of Pathophysiology focuses on human diseases and investigates the associated changes in cellular functions (e.g. mitosis, secretion and cell motility). At the subcellular level, we study changes in organelle homeostasis, and the dynamics of proteins and other macromolecules. Our goal is to contribute to a better understanding of disease mechanisms and identify potential new strategies for their therapy. In addition to research, our institute is strongly involved in teaching of students of medicine, dentistry and molecular medicine.
