The bioethics network Ethucation at MUI was found in September 2007 (headed by Prof. Dr. Gabriele Werner-Felmayer, Division of Biological Chemistry, Biocenter). Ethucation is the Austrian unit of the International Network of Institutes for Medical Ethics Training (NIMED) of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics in Haifa (chair-holder: Prof. Amnon Carmi), Israel, established in 2001 at the International Center for Health, Law and Ethics at the University of Haifa.

The International Network aims at an internationally coordinated improvement of ethics and bioethics education within medical curricula. It is currently organised in 5 Divisions, 3 Departments and more than 220 units worldwide.
