Austrian Unit of the Network of Institutions for Medical Ethics Education

The bioethics network Ethucation at MUI is an independent platform committed to scholarliness. Our aim is to raise awareness of ethical/bioethical issues related to medicine and biomedicine within academic and public settings. We focus on educational and advanced training activities within the student's curricula (in cooperation with CEPEA) as well as in training faculty.

We initiate and organize, mostly in cooperation with internal and external partners, events, that offer basic knowledge, skills and the possibility to reflect on ethical and bioethical issues. In addition, we cooperate in scientific projects. An important principle of our work is to observe interdisciplinarity. For this reason, the network members have backgrounds in numerous medical disciplines, in biology, philosophy, theology and economy and are affiliated to the Medical University, the Leopold-Franzens University, the Tyrolean Hospice Association, the Management Center as well as other Austrian universities (steering committee, working group). The members are working in an honorary capacity for the network.

Ethucation does not offer advisory services or formal assessments, since these tasks are reserved for authorized institutions, e.g. the Ethics Commission (, the Coordination Center for Clinical Studies ( ) or the Clinical Ethics Group of the University Hospital.
