Curriculum Beyond Academia
Skills for science, industry, and society
The Curriculum Beyond Academia supports researchers in actively shaping their professional futures. It provides training in skills that are highly valued across science, industry, public administration, and society. Participants receive support in strategic career planning and develop essential competencies in leadership, management, and communication through practice-oriented workshops. The program also broadens interdisciplinary methodological expertise.
The goal is to strengthen both personal and professional skills, equipping participants for diverse career paths within and beyond academia.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the curriculum allows participants to choose seminars individually from a wide range of offerings, while ensuring that all key modules are covered. Completing the full program typically takes about two years.
Modules:
Strategy & Career Development: Discussing individual career goals and options, developing personal strategies for career planning, preparing for application procedures
Management & Leadership: Project and self-management, developing your own understanding of leadership and implementing it in your professional role.
Communication & Collaboration: Developing communication and conversation skills, conflict resolution, and networking.
Methods: Deepening methodological knowledge, e.g., fundamentals of economics or application-oriented tools.

Contents:
- Orientation Meeting (30 minutes): Start your journey with a brief introduction to the curriculum, and a reflection on your goals and needs.
- Course Participation:
- Complete courses from all modules totaling 75 hours (approx. 10 seminar days, equivalent to 3 ECTS).
- A minimum of 7 hours per module is required.
- Courses already completed may be recognized at the discretion of the institution.
- Reflection Meeting (30 minutes): Conclude your participation with a final session to review progress and reflect on your personal and professional development.

Completion: Successful completion of the curriculum is recognized with a certificate.
Target group: Researchers & scientists interested in exploring career paths beyond academia
Conditions of participation: Courses take place during working hours; participation does not entitle to overtime compensation.The minimum requirement for participation is an advanced pre-doctoral or higher qualification and an employment contract with the Medical University that extends long enough to complete the program.
