At our university hospital we offer the entire spectrum of modern surgical treatment of hernias (fractures). This includes surgical methods tailored to the individual patient or his or her individual situation. In the vast majority of patients, the operations themselves are performed under inpatient conditions, and in certain suitable cases also on an outpatient day clinic basis.

Initial consultation/examination

a hernia, i.e. a fracture of any kind, is diagnosed, the doctor will explain the treatment options to the patient, taking into account his individual situation. Together with the patient, the further treatment plan is then determined.

The basic danger with all hernias is primarily the entrapment of intestines, which can make emergency surgery necessary. In order to avoid this, hernias should be treated in time, i.e. they should be operated on. Various methods are available for this purpose. The most suitable one for the individual patient is selected and then applied.

The most common fracture diseases are

Inguinal hernia

These occur at all ages, from newborns to old people. The spectrum of surgical treatment ranges from the classic suture technique to tissue reinforcement (using plastic mesh). The operations can be performed either minimally invasive, i.e. with small incisions and camera technology, or conventional. When selecting the surgical methods, individual patient wishes are naturally taken into account in addition to the medical aspects.

Abdominal wall hernia

Here, primary hernias of the abdominal wall, for example a small umbilical hernia, can be distinguished from the so-called scar hernias. These can occur after various operations in the abdominal cavity, and accordingly, like all other hernias, they can be of very different sizes. The choice of the surgical method depends primarily on this.
