3D Bioprinting and Tissue Engineering

The 3D bioprinting lab is equipped with two 3D bio-printer systems, the INKREDIBLE+ (CELLINK) and the 3D Discovery BioSafety (RegenHu).

The INKREDIBLE+ is a micro-extrusion desktop printer with two independent, heated printing heads for low- to medium viscosity gels . For this system we designed a temperature-controlled printing platform to build also  structures with biomaterials that can be gelled on cold surfaces.

The 3D Discovery System is a cutting-edge 3D bioprinter with four independent printing heads housed in a sterile hood. Its two micro-extrusion  printing heads  can be used for a broad range of different viscosities, from hydrogels to even metal-pastes. The two other printing heads are so called "cell friendly micro-jet"  heads that  are used to spray layers of cells during the printing process or to extrude nano-liter volumes of fluids /bioinks into the gels.

The highly specialized design- and manufacturing-software provides complex features for patterning of structures in each layer of tissue surrogates by all four different printing heads  and for simultaneous production of replica of a given 3D cell-laden structure in multi-well plates.
