Annulment of Admission (“Exmatrikulation”)

What does the annulment of admission refer to?

It means that the admission to a study program lapses.

What kinds of annulment of admission are there?

  1. Deregistration from the study program
    The following documents are required:
  • Filled in registration from
  • Valid travel document
  • StudentCard
    To establish your identity, you must appear in person during our office hours.
  1. Failure to register for the continuation of studies. Reasons for this can be that
  • the ÖH-fee or a possible tuition fee was not paid in full or not paid by the respective deadline or

  • the ÖH-fee or a possible tuition fee was paid to another university, but the registration for the continuation of studies at the Medical University of Innsbruck has not been reported.
  1. Minimum academic performance acc. to §59a Universities Act was not achieved (applies to students admitted to a bachelor’s or diploma program from the 2022/23 winter semester onwards). First-time students who register for a new bachelor’s or diploma program from the 2022/23 winter semester onwards, have to pass 16 ECTS-Credits within four semesters. If they do not succeed in doing so, the admission to the respective study program is forfeited. Only after a blocking period of two academic years, it is possible to apply for admittance to this study program at the same university again. Semesters for which leave of absence has been granted are not to be included in the specified four semesters. These regulation does not apply to students with disability acc. to §3 BGStG. In case of lack of clarity with regards to study achievements, please contact the Department for Teaching and Study Matters in time.
  2. Negative evaluation of the last permitted retake of an examination required for the degree program, unless this examination was repealed acc. to §79 par. 1 Universities Act.
  3. Partial studies have been passed within the period of a limited admission (e.g. participation in a university mobility program – ERASMUS)
  4. Conclusion of the study program by positive evaluation of all examinations required for the program
  5. Non-fulfillment of conditions in the case of conditional, time-limited admission notices (request for supplementary examinations or submission of documents that cannot be provided in a timely manner for reasons that are particularly worthy of consideration through no fault of the applicant)
  6. Act or acts that constitute or present a continuing or serious threat of harm to other university employees or third parties in the course of study
