The MBRL includes two molecular biology research laboratories, an S2 cell culture laboratory, “life cell imaging” fluorescence microscopy, chemiluminescence detection systems, quantitative PCR, protein purification systems and a multi-color flow cytometer. The involvement of signal transduction and cell cycle / cell death regulatory proteins in physiologic and pathophysiologic processes is investigated by assessing their expression (immunoblot, qRT-PCR, fluorescence microscopy), subcellular localisation (life cell imaging), interaction and specific function (retroviral gene transfer, conditional transgenic expression and shRNA-mediated gene knock-down) in several experimental systems.
