Division of Neurobiology

The research programme at the Division of Neurobiology (INBU) focuses on multiple system atrophy (MSA), a neurodegenerative disease (alpha-synucleinopathy) that is associated with autonomic failure, ataxia and parkinsonism. During the last decade the INBU team has generated important contributions in key MSA research fields including clinical presentation and diagnostic tools. As Co-Founding Director and Coordinator of the European MSA Study Group (www.emsa-sg.org), INBU head Prof. Gregor Wenning leads a consortium of 27 MSA centres in Europe and Israel, with the goal of driving forward accurate and early diagnosis as well as effective personalized therapeutic approaches. Clinical activities at INBU also include the work up and treatment of autonomic disorders. To this end a Dysautonomia Center was established in 2008 currently serving 500 patients per year.

INBU has a strong preclinical research program with Prof. Nadia Stefanova heading the Translational Neurodegeneration Research Lab that focuses on preclinical target discovery and disease modification in MSA and other alpha-synucleinopathies. We provide training in translational neuroscience for Master and Doctoral students, as well as Postdocs, offering a dynamic international research environment, collaborative approach, and expertise in clinical and preclinical skills.
