  • In the last years I have given lectures in: biostatistics, regression analysis, planning of clinical studies, epidemiology, medical documentation and information processing.
  • Since 1991 I am one of the project managers for the development of a new hospital financing system in Austria (Austrian DRG-system) in duty of the Austrian Ministry of Health.
  • Furthermore I have been involved in many projects and published many papers in clinical studies, about the application of information technology in health care, like clinical information and communication systems, information systems for patient education, hospital financing systems and evaluation of information technology in health care.

  • Cooperation as a statistican in many clinical studies
  • Cooperation in some projects about application of informatics in medicine and health care
  • Teaching in medical statistics, epidemiology, quality management in health care, medical informatics and information processing
  • Project manager for the development and introduction of the Austrian DRG-system at the Austrian Ministry of Health (since 1991)
  • Chairman of the project executive committee for the introduction of a hospital information system at the university hospital in Innsbruck
  • Cooperation for the development of studies in informatics at the Innsbruck University
  • Scientific director of a university type course for "Applied informatics" at Management Centre Innsbruck (MCI)
  • Chairman of the team for the development of a study "Applied Informatics and Management" at the University of Applied Sciences at the Management Centre Innsbruck (MCI)
  • Scientific director of a course for "Specialist in medical documentation" at the Ausbildungszentrum West in Innsbruck
  • One of the founding professors for the private University for Medical Informatics in Tyrol (UMIT)

  • Born 1953 in Vorau, Österreich
    1971-76: Studies in Technical Mathematics, Technical University of Graz, Austria. Finished with the degree Dipl.-Ing.
  • 1.1.1977 - 30.11.1994: Assistant professor at the Institute of Physiology, University of Graz. Head of the working group "Statistics and information processing".
  • During this time I have been visiting professor at the "Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule, Zürich" and the "University of California, Los Angeles".
  • 1981: Thesis (Dr.techn.) about "Statistical methods for the analysis of phenomena of frequency potentiation in patients with cardiac arrhythmia"
    at the Technical University of Graz.
  • 1985: Assistant professor (Univ.-Doz.) at the Medical Faculty of the University of Graz for "Medical statistics and information processing".
  • Head of the "Ludwig Boltzmann-Institute for Epidemiology and Health Systems Research" (1992-1999).
  • Since 01.12.1994: University professor and head of the department (Director) for Institut of Biostatistics and Documentation (Since 2005: Department of Medical Statistics, Informatics and Health Economics) at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria.
