Welcome to the homepage of the Institute of Human Genetics Innsbruck

We are the only human genetics institute in western Austria. We fulfil comprehensive tasks in the education and training of physicians and natural scientists and have independent research laboratories.

As the Centre for Medical Genetics Innsbruck, we are also responsible for comprehensive medical care for genetic issues in the region and beyond. We provide a wide range of clinical genetic services in our genetic consultation hours and consults in Innsbruck, Feldkirch, Zams and Lienz. All relevant methods of genetic diagnostics are competently performed in our ISO 15189 accredited laboratories. For special questions, we draw on a comprehensive network of national and international cooperation partners.

Researchers from the Institute of Human Genetics (Director: Johannes Zschocke) at the Medical University of Innsbruck have used methods they developed themselves to examine the regulation of the lipid composition of mitochondrial membranes.
