Das der Univ.-Klinik für Medizinische Psychologie assoziierte CAPPTS versteht sich als klinisch-psychologisches Kompetenzzentrum hinsichtlich der psychosozialen Evaluation von TransplantkandidatInnen, insbesondere von NierenlebendspenderInnen und -empfängerInnen. Neben der psychodiagnostischen Evaluation und Begutachtung von TransplantkandidatInnen zählt das klinisch-psychologische Assessment von KandidatInnen für plastisch-chirurgische Eingriffe zum Leistungs- und Aufgabenbereich des Zentrums.
Einen besonderen Stellenwert erhält das klinisch-psychologische Assessment von HandtransplantkandidatInnen. Einerseits erfolgt die klinisch-psychologischen Evaluation von potentiellen KandidatInnen für uni- und bilaterale rekonstruktive Handtransplantationen am Zentrum, andererseits werden bereits transplantierte PatientInnen anhand eines spezifischen Follow-up Protokolls psychosozial evaluiert und supportiv begleitet.
