Research Focus:

The goal of our work is to understand cellular signaling and its role in the determination of cell fate in terms of proliferation, survival, etc. under normal and patho-physiological conditions.

Our interest lies in the dissection of intracellular signaling pathways and of the mechanism controlling signal propagation along them. Historically, this work focused on mitogen- activated protein kinases (MAPKs), but other signaling entities (NF-KB, PI-3-kinase, protein kinase B) are also studied. Of particular interest to us is to use this knowledge to further understand and eventually control aberrant signaling in diseases such as cancer, ischemie/reperfusion or neurodegeneration.

Research projects:
  • Analysis of mechanisms underlying the survival control by Raf and PKB
  • Regulation of ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) induced tissue damage by MAPKs
  • Role of Raf and Raf effector pathways in malignant transformation
  • Stress kinase signaling in transformation
