Research is one of the three core tasks of Innsbruck Medical University and is carried out by research teams in the theoretical departments and those of the University Medical Center.
The research focuses on molecular bio-sciences (including the special research area “Cell proliferation and cell death in tumors”, Austrian Proteomics Platform), neuro-sciences, cancer research, molecular imaging and sports medicine. In these and other areas, academic research at Innsbruck Medical University has been very successful in getting research funding against strong national and international competition.
Clear evidence of this success are a number of research projects supported by the Austrian Federal Science Fund (FWF), the National Bank and the European Union. Innsbruck Medical University is also integrated in a number of international partnerships. The Innsbruck Medical University staff are active in numerous networks and in cooperative research, as well as being represented in the relevant specialised scientific associations.
A research service supports the scientists with the realisation of various research projects. The research is evaluated regularly according to strict guidelines and presented in the documentation of research achievements. Applied research is linked to competence and spin-off centers (CAST, KMT, HITT).
In its research efforts, Innsbruck Medical University has the support of various partners. The province of the Tyrol and the Tiroler Landeskrankenanstalten Ges.m.b.H (Tilak, Tyrolean provincial hospitals limited liability company) as joint operators of the University Medical Center play a major role here.
